About
The Locarnos is a bunch of four likely lads who have played a variety of gigs throughout the South West, the heart of all things wild and exciting! Things began when LJ, Drys and Sinc were at school together at the wee little age of 12. Drys caught a glimpse of his reflection in a spoon, while eating his sticky toffee pudding, and realised that being ‘really, really, ridiculously good looking’ was not a career path option, and male modelling would never pay the bills. He called upon his best chums LJ and Sinc to help him in his quest for glory, and they ventured forth together into the world of Rock ‘n’ Roll. LJ could play the guitar like Brian May and was soon earned the title ‘Monster of Rock’. Sinc could play the drums like no other and owned the stage with his variety of fills and tricks with sticks! Drys had a thumb like an Indonesian cucumber, and slapped his bass 24 hours a day to the sounds of the best jazz funk.
However, after many games of Sega Lock On, they realised something was missing, so they called upon none other than Josh ‘The Angel’ Brooksbank to become their frontman, after his previous days in Cathedrals and robes. It was from this moment that the four boys discovered the wonders of tight trousers and therefore made it their goal in life to make glorious, melodic, upbeat Indie anthems that would inspire a generation.
How did you get together?
Well, we’d kind of been in a band together before, but we decided to actually do something worthwhile with it and write some songs.
It all kind of clicked when we heard people like Bloc Party and The Kooks, as we realised we all liked that kind of music and so blended it all together to write our first few songs.
How would you describe your music?
It’s basically, if you want to define it, indie-pop-rock - although we have our moments when we’ll go a bit electro or reggae or something!
We’ve definitely got our sound sorted out now, and we like to vary it quite a lot. We don’t want to get caught churning out the same kind of tunes over and over again!
Who are your musical influences?
We all like the same sort of music really, a lot of what comes out of NME!
Bands like Bloc Party, The Kooks, The Holloways, The Rakes, and then bands like Klaxons or The Horrors - more for their style though!
LJ likes a bit of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, so we get some influence from that as well!
Basically, we take stuff from any kind of music we like.
